National School Badminton Championships
Clarendon Academy were privileged to host the above event on Friday 8th January.
12 teams were entered, representing all schools in the West Wilts area. Clarendon had 2 teams entered and were drawn in separate groups, meaning they did not have to play each other in the first round of matches.
The event started very well with both teams recording 5-0 victories in their first matches. The A team then went on to win both of their remaining matches and were given a bye straight into the final. The B team won their second match and were poised 2-2 in the final match against Bishopstrow boarding school, with one game to play. Despite a truly heroic effort the game was lost on the final point, meaning the team could not progress further.
In the final every player in the A team “upped their game” for the occasion, but were unable to overcome a very strong team from Matravers and finished as runners-up for the second year in succession.
In addition Clarendon provided 10 GCSE students to act as officials for the tournament, scoring and refereeing all matches to a competition standard. The organisers were very impressed with the commitment and professionalism shown throughout the day.
