HAPPY BARD - DAY Mr Shakespeare!
23rd April is a big day in the anniversary calendar this year. It is 400 years since Shakespeare died after a birthday binge (yes, 23rd April was also Shakespeare’s birthday!) at the age of 52.
On this anniversary weekend there were events going on all over the country and Clarendon has added it’s little offering in the form of a reduced version of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM as part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Dream Team project.
So on Friday 22nd a group of Year 7 students performed their show for nearly 200 primary school students and for over 50 parents throughout the day. The cast brought the piece to life with such joy and enthusiasm that it made all their hard work really worth while, even getting blue hands from tie-dying their T shirt costumes.
Special mention must be given to Ed Low as an outstanding Oberon and Natalia Von Wijk as an elegant Helena – but Harry Neimeyer and James Smyth won hearts as Flute and Snug
The cast would also like to thank Miss Vidler who helped so much with the final rehearsals. The next part of the celebration will be when the groups heads off to Stratford in June to see how the professionals “do” their play. I’m sure it won’t be half as good!
