National Schools Badminton Championships
On Tuesday 2nd February the Clarendon year 9 girls badminton team represented West Wiltshire at the National Schools Championships County Final, held at Tidworth Sports Centre. This was the first time that a team from Clarendon had reached the finals and the girls were competing against teams from Swindon, Salisbury and all areas in between.
The standards were very high, with a number of players having represented the county in external competitions. Our team were playing in only their second competition, but refused to let the pressure get to them and took part in some very close games. Although the girls lost their first three matches they were still in good spirits going into their last match and emerged victorious, much to everyone’s delight.
Clarendon also provided 4 young officials to help organise the event and umpire the games. The event organiser commended them on their professional and efficient approach, commenting that they were probably the best group of young officials that he had the privilege of working with.
