RAF Inspires Year 8 Students
On the 16th June two members of the RAF came in to talk to the year 8s. One group was first to have the assembly which was taken by an aircraft mechanic.
He told us about the GCSE grades we needed for different jobs. After the whole of year 8 had their assembly, 10 students were picked to take part in their workshop.
They explained what was going to happen then we were taken outside to do a warm up. We were then put into groups and given a bag of equipment. The equipment consisted of multiple nuts and bolts, angled pieces, corners and a lot more items.
Firstly, we had to make a box out of the equipment that was stable and any items we didn’t use we had to put inside the box, It was challenging to try and make it all stable but it worked.
We had another warm up then back to making things. This time we had to make a wheel barrow that had to carry a cup of water without spilling it. It was easier that we thought but as my team went round the course it started to get tricky. My team spilled ours but we got close. To summarise the day I think the majority of us would enjoy being in the RAF. They should definitely come next year and teach the next year 8s.
